How to choose a filling machine for high-viscosity products with particles
Valve passages, hopper agitation, shear and sample testing — the engineering criteria that decide whether a filler can really handle chunky sauce.
Marketing literature often labels any piston filler as “particulate-capable”, but real-world performance is decided in the dosing path. Three elements matter most: the valve passage, the geometry between hopper and nozzle, and how the product is kept homogeneous before dosing.
For butter-based hotpot base and chunky chili sauce, a jacketed, agitated hopper keeps the fat matrix and inclusions mixed right up to the dosing point. Without agitation, solids settle during cooling and the first jars of every run differ from the last.
Shear is the second failure mode. Narrow valve passages crush soft vegetable and meat inclusions, changing the perceived quality of the product. Wide-passage and rotary-valve configurations reduce this, but maximum particle size must always be confirmed against the actual recipe.
Third, treat published throughput numbers with caution. Filling speed for particulate products depends on dose weight, viscosity, particle content and container format. A responsible supplier marks figures as pending technical confirmation and releases them only after a timed sample test with your product and your container.
